Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Going to therapy doesn’t need to be scary

Everyone who has attended counselling has experienced a first session. In hopes to minimize any worries, please find some frequently asked questions here

What can I expect in my first session?

During your first session we will be getting to know each other. This will be an opportunity to start to tell your story and you’ll get to decide if you would like to continue our work together. It’s important you are in a private place where you won’t be interrupted. If you can’t find a place in your home, it may be helpful to sit in your car during the session.

I had a therapist before and it’s hard for me to start from the beginning. Can you get my notes from them?

It can be incredibly hard to tell your story over again. I won’t be able to get your notes from a past counsellor however my hope is we’re able to pick up where you have left off.

CAN YOU DIRECT BILL TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY?

I can direct bill to some insurance plans which include Blue Cross, Canada Life and Green Shield. Depending on your insurance plan, I may have to provide you with a receipt for you to be reimbursed.

I am a mental health provider with FNIHB, and can direct bill for people with a treaty status number.
